Kenn C of E Primary Become a Rights Respecting School

Kenn C of E Primary started out on the journey to becoming a rights respecting school last year; this means that:

Pupils and adults learn about children’s rights, putting them into practice every day.
In Rights Respecting Schools children’s rights are promoted and realised, adults and children work towards this goal together.

There are four key areas of impact for children at a Rights Respecting school; wellbeing, participation, relationships and self esteem.

The difference that a Rights Respecting School makes goes beyond the school gates, making a positive impact on the whole community.

  • Children are healthier and happier
  • Children feel safe
  • Children have better relationships
  • Children become active and involved in school life and the wider world

We are pleased to say we have just achieved the Bronze award. We have achieved this by setting up a ‘steering group’ of Y3/4/5/6 pupils who help to lead the school so that everyone knows about their rights, lead assemblies about children’s rights, ask the school what they know about rights and posters are put in the school newsletter each month explaining to parents what the ‘right of the month’ is.

We are delighted with our award, and will be looking to achieve Silver in the future.
